Life at Three — Where I Am Today
There was a time I didn't know if I would get through it. I want you to know — I did. And this is what's waiting for you on the other side.
Life is pretty incredible.
There was a time when being a twin mum felt entirely one-sided. I gave everything — every feed, every night, every ounce of energy I had — and got nothing back. It was take, take, take. And I gave it willingly, because they needed me to. But it was relentless and lonely in a way that's hard to describe.
That has changed.
My boys are three. They are funny and loving and kind and considerate in ways that take my breath away daily. They are the loves of my life — completely and without question. If I had to do every single hard thing again — the traumatic birth, the NICU, the spreadsheets, the darkest nights — I would. Without a second thought. Just to have them.
Over the last couple of weeks they have started saying "I love you Mummy."
Every single time it is magical. Every time.
But more than that — I get to watch them with each other. I get to see them cuddle. I get to hear one say to the other, when he's crying — "I'm here. I love you noodle."
That is something I could only ever have dreamed of witnessing. Their bond is permanent. Ingrained. Something so deep it existed before they even came into the world.
I am so grateful knowing they have each other. Whatever life brings them — they will always have each other.
Being a twin mum is not for the faint hearted. But we are truly blessed. We get to see something others don't — two people experiencing life for the very first time, together.
All the pain, the fear, the sadness and the despair — I watch it dissolve every single day.
They are my heart. I love them completely. And they love me.
A love like no other.
